Seltún er geothermal svæði á Reykjanesi sem er þekkt fyrir fjölbreytinn úrúr sitt. Það er staðsett á suðausturhluta Reykjanesfirði og er einn af þjóðgarðunum á Íslandi. Seltún er frá árinu 1990 þjóðgarður og er hann stjórnaður af Þjóðgarður Íslands.

Staðsetning

Seltún geothermal svæði er staðsett á Reykjanesnesi, sem er skógapálma á suðvesturströnd Íslands. Heimilisfangið er Heimilisfang: Reykjanes peninsula, 241, Ísland.

Klasseyri

Seltún er ferðamannastaður sem er frægur fyrir að bjóða upp á glæsileg úrúr geothermal svæðis. Það er þekkt fyrir fljótandi jarðhiti, steamefni, fagurbrotið skriður og rauðgólf ský. Ferðamenn geta sýnt fram á nálægt geothermal verkfallum og skoðað þau með eigin augum.

Íbúðarleyfi

Seltún er ókeypis aðgangur fyrir allan mannfjöldann, en því þurfast ekki íbúðarleyfi til að fara í svæðið.

Seltún er í sparnaðarverkefni, en starfsmenn fara á svæðið til að stjórna, vaka og veita upplýsingar um ferðamenn.

Á Seltúni er mjög góðt því það er hægt að afstaða bíla á stórum þurrkóða, en einnig er það hægt að afstaða þau á hjólastólaaðgengi.

Cool stop to check out geothermal activity up close and personal. Ample parking for cars and busses is available nearby. The paths and trails are well maintained. There are wooden walkways and gravel paths. You can get pretty close to the vents and get good photos/videos of the area. There are free restrooms at the location as well. Cool place to visit.

Nice, bubbling geothermal field with steaming vents, mineral-stained hills, and boardwalk paths. Don’t go off path! Also I went on a week day and it was pretty empty - 4 people other than me.

This was a last minute addition to our itinerary, but we are so glad we went! Beautiful site. So different from what we had seen of Iceland (Golden Circle and the South Coast). Followed the creek up the mountain all the way, and went over the top. GREAT view. Green Lake was so pretty from there too.

Seltún is an iconic geothermal wonder, where steam rises over golden and amber-hued earth. I visited twice, and each time the vivid colors and bubbling ground felt otherworldly.

Free parking with a toilet and few benches. The wooden path is easy to take. If you want to go further up, be careful, it's slippery. The geothermal field is colorful and active with moderate sulphur smell.

Sehr aktives Georthermalgebiet, absolut sehenswert. Überall blubbernde Schlammtöpfe, dampfende Fumarolen und bunte Ablagerungen von Mineralien. Schon auf dem Parkplatz weht der charakteristische Schwefelgeruch entgegen. Über das Gebiet führt ein Rundweg auf Stegen und Aussichtsplattformen mit leichtem Anstieg. Parkpkatz war im Mai 2025 noch kostenlos, aber wie es aussah, werden am Eingang gerade diese typischen Masten für Kameras installiert, so dass es bald vorbei sein dürfte mit dem kostenfreien Naturerlebnis. WC beim Parkplatz vorhanden. Menschenmenge überschaubar.

Nice little geothermal walk with free parking (for now). There's also a short hike up the mountain that nobody was doing, but offers great views with not a lot of effort. The road getting here is also very scenic, with a few lakes in the vicinity.
