Visited to escape from the rain on my camping trip. Lovely host, and rooms hot water, WiFi and all facilities were ideal. I slept well in my single room and enjoyed my stay here.
Well located near to shops, restaurants etc, and is close to hiking trails on the hills behind as well.

This was the perfect stay! My husband and I stayed for 2 nights during our honeymoon in one of the cottages and it was our favorite place by far during our whole 3 week trip. The room is adorable and cozy and had everything we needed to make ourselves breakfast in the morning. The bed was super comfortable and a double (not 2 twins which we’ve mostly experienced traveling on a budget in Iceland… pretty funny on your honeymoon!). The hot tub outside next to the outdoor shower and barrel sauna was SUCH a treat, perfectly hot and so welcome after a freezing cold/wet day ferrying out to Grímsey island. And the value for the room is amazing, and not just by Iceland standards! ||More than anything though the host Bjarni is just about the nicest human we’ve ever met. He was so accommodating and generous from the second we booked the room months before our trip until when we arrived in Dalvík. It felt like he was catering to us personally which we know can’t be true because he also manages a 40 bed hostel down the road AND runs the little cafe in town! He showed us around his cafe the morning we left and it’s super charming with tons of history, we wish we could have stayed and enjoyed some of his famous fish soup. We loved listening to his stories about the characters he’s had at the cafe (True Detective filmed their 4th season there!). And it sounds like the “eat free fish” festival in August is quite the event! ||Also want to give a shout out to Dalvík in general, super charming little seaside town and a great break from the hustle and bustle of the ring road. It’s well worth the detour, check out the beer bath (Drink beer while bathing in beer?! Hell yeah) and be sure to make it out to Grímsey to see just an unbelievable amount of birds and a really interesting tiny island community.||10/10 all around, we will absolutely be back!

Für uns eine der tollsten Herberge auf unserer 17 tägigen Islandrundreise! Etwas abseits der 1 lohnt sich der aussichtsreiche Umweg über die 82 & 76 auf jeden Fall. Dalvik ist eine tolle Station für die Übernachtung. Das Gimli-Hostel hat uns total begeistert. Hier fühlt man sich sofort wohl, die Zimmer sind sehr individuell und von der Größe her absolut ok (da wir die ersten an dem Tag waren, konnten wir in alle Zimmer schauen).||Ein schöner und großer Gemeinschaftsraum mit ausreichend ausgestatteter Küche ist das Herzstück. Von hier kann man sogar auf den Fjörd schauen. Toiletten / Bäder sind ausreichend vorhanden.

We stayed with Bjarni for a bit over a week in Dalvik. The hostel and its staff are very nice, from the beds to the showers to the kitchen. Everything you need and more! Be sure to go to Bjarni's cafe down the road for some delicious fish soup and coffee. Dalvik is a lovely town everything you need, nothing more or less.
